Let’s first break down Digital Marketing.
Digital simply means any electronic communication whether on your computer, tablet, or cell phone.
What is Marketing? The main goal of marketing is to produce an interest in a company’s products or services. This includes market research, promotional material, and advertising.
And everything I write about on this page contributes to marketing your business.
Of course, this can be online, in magazines, in newspapers, on the radio, on TV, in direct mail, and so on. Our services are focused on Internet Marketing Strategies, but I have years of experience in offline advertising as well if you would like help with that.
Everything you do online should be promoting your products and services. You always want to have a Call To Action (CTA). A link to a video, a product or service, some “insider information”, or whatever the next step you desire that the person browsing will take the path to become your next customer or client.
We have two basic paths you can follow…

Do I really need a website? The short answer is – YES! Every business can benefit from a well-created website.
It doesn’t have to be elaborate, although it can be, yet it does need to have quality, SEO-written content, a friendly user experience that is easy to navigate, images and video, and all the proper titles, tags, descriptions, etc.
If you don’t have a website, look no further for the best website builders. Building a website from scratch is no easy task even for an experienced website maker. There are many moving parts and not only what’s on the website, but all the behind-the-scenes and off-site work that needs to be connected so that your website shows up on top in the search results.

What is website optimization? It is a process of using SEO to improve your content, knowing the user intent for each page, reducing the size of the images, adding citations and backlinks, UX or user experience, mobile optimization, and so much more.

SERP or Search Engine Results Page is the results you get when you type or speak into your device. Most people don’t look past Page 1.
What are the top 3 search engines in 2022?
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Bing
That said, Amazon is a massive search engine and is Google’s biggest competitor, escpecially when people are ready to purchase – we call it the Buy Now Moment level of intent.
YouTube is the second largest search engine – yes larger than Bing or Yahoo!

Google has a whopping 90 to 92% of all searches. Which means we should pay attention to what Google says. They kind of control the internet, not just in the USA, but around the world. Now that’s amazing and even scary as you think about that!
What do your search results and your online presence look like?
As already mentioned, good content and proper coding on your website are crucial. Each page on your site can and should rank separately. This is simply called Page Ranking.
How? We’ll get to that in a moment.
Google Business Profile
Since Google searches are over 90% of all searches, it is important to pay attention to what Google does. One thing they do well is their Google Business Profile (GBP). This helps you rank high in SERPs, and to show up on Google maps.
Whether you have a physical location as in a retail store, or you work from home or on the road as in outside sales or service industry, you want your business to show up on Google Maps when someone searches in your geographical location.
One example is JBL Action Marketing. You won’t find my physical address on the web, but my service area is focused on several counties and towns as well as all of Colorado.
I don’t mind saying that my main office is in Colorado Springs and my secondary office and mailing address is in Buena Vista.

Once again Google appears as the owner of YouTube for some years now. The truth is – Google loves itself. The more products of theirs you use, the better it is for ranking.
Video has been increasing in popularity for a long time now. Many people would rather watch a video than read a blog or webpage. It is important to have both.
The advantage of a YouTube Channel is they probably show up quicker in SERPs than other platforms, but there are advantages to each platform. Some other platforms include:
- Rumble (a personal favorite)
- Facebook Video
- Pinterest Video
That is not a complete list, but you get the idea.
More than just uploading a video to your personal YouTube account, you want to set up a Channel in your business name.

Social Media Platforms
With a wide variety of social media platforms available today, there are a few for business that really boosts both your website and your internet presence in general. They are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, TikTok, Reddit, and Snapchat.
This next statement is a mix of what I’ve learned, my experience, and my opinion.
Not all social media platforms are right for every business. Facebook and Twitter are good for most businesses, but if you don’t have a lot of pictures that relate to your business, then those that focus on photo uploads like Instagram or Pinterest may not be for you.
That said we can help you set up social media platforms with proper SEO and content, then you can post at will. The thing I will say about social media is you must post regularly. It can be once a week, but a bare minimum of twice a month.
Some businesses post daily or even multiple times a day. It doesn’t hurt. Search engines like to see activity. And when they come from authoritative sites like Facebook and Twitter, it helps people find you and boost your ranking.
Blogs & Vlogs & Email
A blog is an excellent tool to keep in touch with your current clients and keep them interested in you and your business. It will also reach new people in a different way than a website or an ad.
A Blog is a regularly updated website, webpage, or written on a blogging platform, usually written in a conversational or informal way.
A Vlog is a website or social media account with short videos that are uploaded regularly. Usually informal and casual.
They are both informational and can be an excellent strategy to be used to keep the line of communication open and open new doors as well.
Email is still a great way to keep in touch especially with current clients. Your blog can be posted online AND be sent via email as well.
It is important to have a habit of posting regularly as people will look forward to it. Whether once a week, bi-weekly, or monthly is really up to you. It does take time to research and write new content.

Does Search Engine Optimization Really Work?
SEO which stands for Search Engine Optimization uses keywords and keyword phrases to tell the search engines which websites are relevant to the searcher’s request, known as a query.
It takes some market research, keyword research, understanding your customer persona, and other well-researched data to create that well-written content.
Content is the words written on your web pages, blogs, social media posts, etc. Conversational style is the most common for our purpose with only a few exceptions which we won’t get into here.
It used to be that keywords were the BIG KEY to ranking. While they are still important, they need to be incorporated into well-written content. With AI (Artificial Intelligence) and search algorithms, search engines are getting smarter. We need to keep up with them using ONLY white-hat methods.
Backlinks and Citations are definitely important. They are off-site and a part of a proper SEO strategy. They connect your website with other websites that have authority, therefore valuable to you to connect your site with others.
That’s where a trained copywriter and tech person come in to set up and create an online presence for your business.
It doesn’t stop there!
All these things I mentioned so far like content, user experience, SEO, etc. all need to be incorporated into your videos, blogs, social media, and the list goes on. It does take work!
